Financial
Aid Applications
Check with the financial aid office at each school you’d
like to attend so that you understand their financial aid application
process and deadlines. Delays in the receipt of forms could affect your
aid. Described below are two of the most common forms schools may use:
- The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
This form is required for any federal student aid. Students
can complete this form online at www.fafsa.ed.gov or
obtain a paper application by calling 1-800-4FED-AID. Students
and parents completing the FAFSA on the Web should apply for a Federal
Student Aid PIN.
The PIN should be kept private and secure since it will be your
key to access your financial aid information throughout the process
and in future
years. After the FAFSA is completed, you will receive a confirmation
form called the Student Aid Report (SAR) either electronically
or through the
mail. Read the SAR carefully. The SAR will include your Expected
Family Contribution (EFC) and your eligibility for a Federal
Pell Grant. This information
will also be forwarded to schools listed on your FAFSA to determine
eligibility for federal financial aid programs.
-
The College Board CSS/Financial Aid PROFILE Application
Some private colleges and universities
may require the CSS/Financial Aid PROFILE Application. Remember
to check with the individual colleges and universities to
find out if the PROFILE is required. Students can complete
this form online at
www.collegeboard.com.
Many private colleges and universities use this form to
determine your eligibility for private financial aid.
Once you have completed your financial aid applications
and you have been accepted by a school, your school will be able to
determine your financial need and the financial aid available to you.
